About Me

My name is Greg Ostendorf. For the past seven years, I have had the opportunity to tell the stories of Auburn Athletics and help build the Auburn brand. Before that, I wrote stories for ESPN. But Auburn has challenged me in new ways. I’ve worked in communications as a sports information director. I took over the website and app and currently manage both. I have recently become the main email and marketing contact for the men’s basketball team. No matter what has been thrown at me, I have taken it in stride and run with it. Now I’m ready for that next step. I'm ready to go all in on the next challenge and tell the next story.

Auburn's Baker-Mazara eager for another March Madness opportunity

AUBURN, Ala. – Moments after Auburn won the SEC Tournament championship last March, Chad Baker-Mazara sat on the court at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and sobbed. He was on FaceTime with his family in the Dominican Republic, sharing the celebration with them, and could not hold back his emotions.
“It was an experience of a lifetime because my dad always dreamed of me playing in the SEC,” Baker-Mazara said. “Being able to win a championship in the SEC and to be named All-Tournament Team, that...

Bigger than basketball: Auburn fan Hayes Hunter AUTLIVES cancer

With Saturday’s victory over No. 16 Purdue, No. 2 Auburn improved to 11-1 with four wins over top 25 teams. The Tigers are making a strong case for the best team in college basketball this season.
But sometimes it’s bigger than basketball.
After the game, Dylan Cardwell carried 10-year-old Hayes Hunter into the locker room to celebrate with the team. Hayes, who sat behind the Auburn bench with his parents, helped break down the team huddle.
“1…2…3…Auburn! 4…5…6…Family!”
Just moments before, Au...

On The Plains with Jerrin Thompson: Driven by loss, 'Bug' gets new start

AUBURN, Ala. – Jerrin Thompson might be new to Auburn this season, but everybody around the Woltosz Football Performance Center already knows “Bug.”
Little did Thompson’s father know that when he started calling Thompson “Lovebug” as a baby, it was a nickname that would stay with his son from when he first started playing football through high school to the University of Texas for four years and now to Auburn. The only people who still call him Jerrin are his teachers.
The nickname carries spe...

Senior Salute: Shelby Lowe regains confidence, finds joy through adversity

AUBURN, Ala. – Shelby Lowe was locked in last Sunday afternoon at LSU. The Auburn southpaw was carving up the opposing hitters and had given up only one run off one hit through the first four innings. But she had thrown 72 pitches through four innings, reaching her pitch count for the game.
Head coach Mickey Dean walked up to her and said, “You’re done.”
Lowe has been on a pitch count the last two seasons after undergoing multiple surgeries on her throwing arm, and Dean was simply trying to prot...

Fearless and true: Jaylin Williams stays loyal to Auburn, finishes on top

AUBURN, Ala. – Lately, Jaylin Williams has found himself in his apartment watching highlights of his old games on YouTube. Some of the games are from this year while other are from his early years, including one that stood out – an overtime loss to UConn in 2021. “That game was insane." It’s his way of reminiscing on what has been a historic career as he prepares to play his final game in Neville Arena on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Williams made history yet again. He played his 135th career game a...

‘Fought to live’: Auburn manager Sam Cunningham AUTLIVES cancer

AUBURN, Ala. –  It was Tuesday around noon. Practice was still an hour away. Sam Cunningham was on the main court at Neville Arena, throwing pass after pass to Lior Berman and helping the Auburn senior get shots up before the rest of the team arrived.
There was a time when Cunningham’s dream would have been to be on the receiving end of those passes and getting shots up as a member of the Auburn basketball team. But by simply being out there and helping Berman as one of the team managers, he was...

Anchored by faith and family, Payton Thorne finds new challenge at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – As the temperatures started dropping into the 50s and 60s this fall in Auburn, the students on campus started breaking out the heavy jackets. Payton Thorne had to laugh. That’s still t-shirt weather where he’s from in the Midwest. So, how did Thorne, a coach’s kid from just outside Chicago, end up in the SEC as the starting quarterback at Auburn?
To answer that, you first need to understand who Thorne is and what it is that drives him.
First and foremost, it’s his faith.
“My why e...

'Utter disbelief’: Megan Schofill brings U.S. Amateur title to Auburn

Schofill, who will be returning to Auburn for her fifth year this season, has seen her share of big moments. She's won three individual tournaments with Auburn. She's won big matches in both the SEC and NCAA Championships. She's also been on the losing end, most notably finishing runner-up in the stroke play portion of the 2021 SEC Championship. Schofill wasn't going to lose Sunday's championship match. When she hit her first tee shot, there was a sense of calm that came over and stayed with her...
